2017: A Year in Review

09th January 2018
Having been made redundant from my career back in September 2016, this was to be my first full year dedicated to my new profession as a full time photographer. And what a year it has been!

The programme of events I put together was the largest I had created in the ten years that I have been marketing my work. My homeland remains in the North of England where the majority of my landscape work hails. My inspiration comes from the many different valleys of the Dales and the splendour that is the Lake District with pieces from these locations proving very popular with both existing and new customers.

This was the first year that I had marketed a new product and boy has it proven extremely popular: I now produce many of my Landscapes and Generic Scenes at an impressive size of 36"x24" and on the highest quality Gallery Prints (acrylic glass and aluminium composite). The result is a pin-sharp high impact piece of wall art that sits proud of the wall.

2017 was a year when Hallmark cards approached me for the rights to some of my images and I am pleased to say that conversations went very well and I now supply them with pieces for their range of greetings cards.

I was very flattered to have an article about me and my photography published in Living North magazine towards the end of the year. A cracking feature it was too; spread over four pages and featuring a number of my best selling pieces.

It was also a year when my work was used to raise funds for charity. Two images of Emley Moor TV mast (the tallest structure in the UK) were auctioned on eBay and raised over £1000 for our local hospice. I also had a number of pieces chosen to be exhibited alongside two other photographers. Together we raised in excess of £3000 for our chosen charities.

December saw the conclusion to my 2017 show programme at Tennant's of Leyburn and their very successful Winter Wonderland. I was also over the moon when they asked me to take part in a three week exhibition of my work. What a year it was: lots of new customers, lots of lovely reviews on my website and my Facebook page (Coloured Images) and the greatest number of sales in ten years. Not only that but lots of new material gained for the 2018 show programme.

I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone who has stopped to chat at my events or shown an interest in my work and to those of you who have purchased for the first time or added to your existing collections. Without you all, none of this would be possible and I still have to pinch myself when I realise that I am making a very successful living out of something I thoroughly enjoy.

THANK YOU

Mike
